Changes in New York: new name and new address of the Book Fair's NYC office

The foreign office of the Frankfurt Book Fair in New York has a new name. Effective immediately, it now operates under the name “Frankfurt Book Fair New York Inc.”. Thomas Minkus, Vice President Emerging Media & English Language Markets of the Frankfurt Book Fair, was named President of the New York office, and Riky Stock is serving as Vice President, responsible for the Book Fair’s cultural activities in New York. The expansion of the office’s activities necessitated the name change.

The team of the Frankfurt Book Fair New York looks after the Book Fair’s North American exhibitors and is responsible for the Literary Agents & Scouts Centre (LitAg). Last year the Publishers Rights Corner, which is located next to the agents’ centre, was established in order to support international rights activities. Here, on Rights Tuesday (Tuesday, 10 October 2017), from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., rights managers from publishing houses can reserve one or more tables for their meetings and take advantage of all the benefits of the LitAg for the day.

One of the most important tasks of the New York branch is to coordinate the German-language “Festival Neue Literatur” (“New Literature Festival”) with the other German cultural institutions in New York. This year’s eighth edition of the festival will take place from 2 to 5 March 2017. Six emerging and established authors from Germany, Austria and Switzerland will come together in New York and meet their American colleagues. The theme of the 2017 festival is “Queer as Volk.” The focus will be on German-language LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning) literature.

As in previous years, the Frankfurt Book Fair New York office will organise an editors’ trip for children’s book editors from North American publishing houses, from 25 June to 1 July 2017. A meeting for German and American editors and rights managers is planned in New York in winter 2017. The German Foreign Office provides financial support for these activities.

Also in 2017, the Frankfurt Book Fair NYC office will promote German titles with the publication New Books in German, the collection Children’s Books on Tour and titles selected by Geisteswissenschaften International.

The editorial office of the online trade magazine Publishing Perspectives is also located in the Book Fair’s New York office, led by Editor-in-Chief Porter Anderson and Publisher Hannah Johnson.
